Due to lack of registration ( less than 30 kids) John and I have made the decision to CANCEL the Area Rally this year.  I can't stress how important it is to support our Area Events to ensure this will not happen again.  Many hours are put into planning an event like this and none of our leaders really have the time to waste if no one wants to come to them.  Unfortunately, this is the case with the Area Rally, so, with any luck, we will have better registration for the next Area event and for next year's rally.  For the few groups that have registered, thank you for the support but we are sorry it has not worked out for this year.

Sunset Area

Rally Race – Saturday, April 5, 2008

Invitation

Dear Leaders,

Well it is that time of year again…..Racing Season is fast approaching.  This year we will be changing the format of the rally (see below). Our Area event will be held on Saturday April 6th, 2008 at F.E. Madill Secondary School, Wingham.  Registration will begin at 8:00 am; racing will begin at 9 am to approximately 4 pm.  A “Pit Area” will be available to all vehicles if there is a problem at weigh in.  Cost of the event is $12.00 per youth participant.  We require each group to send in participation numbers, participant’s names and entry fees ASAP.  Please find attached your registration sheet that needs to be filled out and handed in by the due date.  The $12.00 entry fee includes lunch for the youth and Leaders as well as a crest.

PLEASE impress upon all your leaders, youth and parents that no matter the sections, Beaver Buggies, Kub Kars and Scout 18 Wheelers are to be made by the youth to compete against other youth.  In the past, there have been youth who have been upset that they have had to compete against vehicles made by the parents and we believe that this is not in the spirit of Scouting.  The youth are not expecting and should not have to compete against anyone other than youth of their same age.  Leaders and Parents ARE allowed helping make primary cuts in the wood where power tools and safety are an issue, but design, painting, detailing, etc. are to be done by the youth.  They can be assisted but the vehicle is theirs and they should be allowed to completely build their vehicles.  Give them a chance.  If they have no interest, let the car they build, race as they built it.  There are of course exceptions to be made for youth who have difficulties.

The Rally is made up of SIX different areas of racing or skill, and every youth will rotate through the different stations.  This not only keeps the youth interested but gives every type of vehicle a chance to place or win in a different event with different criteria. We will need some volunteers from each group attending to help run the different activities. We will also need some volunteers to help with some of the other duties involved in running an event of this size. Please send a representative from your group or section to the next Area meeting where these duties will be assigned.

*****NOTE *****

I will also need to know which groups would like to stay over night at the school for a sleep-over as well.  A separate cost will incur for food for supper and breakfast on the Sunday morning of $8.00 per person.
