Scouter
Don McLaughlin, 1946-2010
Scouter
Don McLaughlin has been apart of our Scouting family for over 30 years,
for some of you, he was a new friend, for some, they have known Don for
many years. He touched our lives in the grand tradition of scouting,
with arms wide open, a smile on his face and always ready to lend a
helping hand where needed. His passion for what he believed in took him
far and wide, camping, cooking, hikeing, training and teaching those who
were there to listen.
Don's enthusiasm was infectious at times, lifting those of us up when we
needed it, lending an ear or a hand, teaching a new knot or how to cook
on a open fire. His wisdom with age and experience was invaluable, it
was never a question who to ask for some idea's or a volunteer, he was
there. From Beaver meetings to Venture & Rover meetings, from Group
Committee's to Councils, he has done it all, most times with a smile on
his face, a laugh in his voice and a wealth of knowledge that most can
only hope to posess.
Most of all, Don's passion was for Scouting, for what it stands for,
ideals, principles and formost, for the youth. He believed we can all
make a difference and together with his wife Theresa, they worked as a
team, educating and enriching the lives of countless youth that
otherwise would not have had the chance to grow and learn such valuable
life's lessons that scouting teaches. On Febuary 9th, scouting has lost
a nobel warrior, we have lost a treasured friend and loved one...gone
but certainly never forgotten.
Gone home...

THE
BROKEN CHAIN
We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
